  2. Slaves weren’t directly transported from Africa to the eastern seaboard of British-America. Slaves were meant for sugar islands in the Caribbean (West Indies, Jamaica, Trinidad) that were under British control. There were slave ships plying from Liverpool, England to various regions of Western Africa. By the beginning of the 18th century, rich plantation owning British colonists of the southern mainland colonies like Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia bought them on auction after they had been transported in slave ships, over from the Caribbean to those colonies. They were made to work on Tobacco plantations or growing Indigo. Slavery in some Northern colonies like New Jersey was there too. Besides, slave traders, the Caribbean islands had their own British colonial merchants who traded in locally grown food items like Molasses and sugar produced by African slaves.
